Root Canal

Dental Services

Root canal therapy is a treatment that removes infection from inside a tooth and allows the tooth to be preserved. At Marysville Family Dentistry, root canals are recommended when the pulp—the tissue containing nerves and blood vessels—becomes infected or severely irritated due to deep decay, a crack, or trauma. The purpose is to stop the infection, relieve pain, and keep your natural tooth in place.

You may need a root canal if you have lingering sensitivity to hot or cold, pain when biting, swelling, or tenderness in the gum near a tooth. Sometimes an infection is found on an exam or digital X-ray even without significant symptoms. Early diagnosis helps prevent the infection from spreading and reduces the risk of losing the tooth.

During the procedure, the tooth is thoroughly numbed to keep you comfortable. Your dentist creates a small opening, removes the infected tissue, and cleans and disinfects the canals inside the roots. The canals are then filled with a biocompatible material and sealed to help prevent reinfection. Because a treated tooth can become more vulnerable to fracture, a crown is often recommended afterward—especially for back teeth—to restore strength and function.

Modern root canal treatment is typically much more comfortable than its reputation suggests. Most patients feel better once the infection is removed and can return to normal activities soon after the appointment. Mild soreness for a few days is possible and is usually manageable with recommended care.

Saving the natural tooth helps maintain proper alignment, chewing efficiency, and long-term oral stability. Marysville Family Dentistry will explain your options clearly, guide you through each step, and provide aftercare instructions so you can heal smoothly and return to a healthy, confident smile.
